Premier Expands Inventory
with New TurboTorque™ Drill Pipe
Premier
has announced that it is the first company in Europe
to purchase drill pipe with Grant Prideco's new TurboTorque
TM connection technology. Initially Premier will take
5 ½” TurboTorque™ 585 and 5 7/8” TurboTorque™
585 into inventory with further sizes expected in
2008.

engineer with Premier Oilfield Rentals says: “The
revolutionary TurboTorque TM connections are designed
to deliver increased torque capacity, optimised hydraulics,
improved clearance and fishability and reduced risk
of failure. Drill pipe connections are designed specifically
to meet the needs of each pipe size resulting in four
distinct design configurations. All incorporate a
unique double radius thread form to reduce thread
root stresses. The connection features a proprietary
double-start thread form, reducing the number of turns
from stab to make up thereby reducing make up and
break out times resulting in more efficient rig operations.
TurboTorque TM connections are manufactured using
a higher strength steel in comparison with standard
connections, providing a stronger tool joint and the
potential to optimise tool joint geometries to increase
hydraulic performance. The optimised connection taper
allows for maximum trade off in torque capacity and
speed of make up.”
In
addition, Stabil Drill stock a large range of Hydroclean
TM drill pipe which is specifically designed to reduce
or eliminate cuttings and torque problems associated
with extended reach and horizontal wells. Doug continues:
“Poor hole cleaning can lead to the accumulation of
cuttings resulting in high torque and drag which can
give rise to serious problems which not only have
an economic impact but can impose technical limits
on the drilling operation. Hydroclean TM has a unique
patented design featuring three bladed sections with
a dual diameter tool joint. The blades are set at
two predetermined angles to the axis of the drill
pipe, which are designed to operate at optimal performance
at rotational drilling speeds of 80-120 rpm. Hydroclean
TM inventory includes 5" NC50, 5 1/2" FH
/ HT55 / DSTJ, 5 7/8" XT57, 6 5/8" FH.
