Superior Energy Services – A
Force to be Reckoned With
The name 'Superior
Energy Services' is widely recognised throughout the
US oil and gas sector and particularly in the Gulf
of Mexico where the company has its
headquarters in New Orleans. Until recently however this multi-faceted oil & gas
service organisation was little known in the North Sea market or indeed anywhere
in the Eastern Hemisphere.
Following the acquisition of Aberdeen
based Premier Oilfield Rentals in 2003 this situation is
changing and Superior Energy Services is beginning to emerge
as a force to be reckoned with in this part of the world.
With an annual turnover of $500M and 3,200 employees Superior is a large and
diverse organisation. There are a total of 20 companies within the group offering
a multitude of products and services including Lift Boats, Drilling and Downhole
Tools, Accommodation Modules, Well Intervention, Oil Pollution Control Equipment,
Well Control and Abandonment. Group companies include household names in the
oil & gas industry such as International Snubbing Services, Contech, Wild
Well Control, Stabil Drill and of course Premier Oilfield Rentals.
Leveraging the original Premier Oilfield Rentals infrastructure, Superior Energy
Services Limited has been created as the Eastern Hemisphere hub for all Superior
group activities. Under the leadership of Albert Brown the company's Chief
Executive Officer, Superior has developed a network of operational bases and
regional offices covering the UK, Continental Europe, Africa and the Middle
East. In Aberdeen Superior has integrated Premier Oilfield Rentals and Stabil
Drill at their Dyce facility while in the Middle East International Snubbing
Services, Wild Well Control and Premier Oilfield Rentals have together moved
into a new facility in Abu Dhabi.
Mr Brown commented "Superior Energy Services is a lot different than the
average multinational oil & gas service organisation. Essentially the group
comprises numerous companies under common ownership, each with unique products,
services and expertise in their particular markets. The Superior approach is
to allow group companies to operate with the minimum of corporate interference,
thereby encouraging entrepreneurial leadership and dynamic growth throughout
the business portfolio. Naturally we seek to consolidate overheads wherever
possible but this is done in the spirit of cooperation rather than corporate
dictate. It is a formula which has proved very successful to date."
